Bio
Given my first camera at age nine, I happily snapped pictures on a train trip to Toronto, opening the camera after each shot to see the image! I remember being very perplexed as to why it was not there. I set up my first darkroom at age eleven, finished top of my class from a photography program in Toronto at 21, and have been shooting professionally since. For a number of years I ran my own gallery/lab/studio in Vancouver and gained a reputation as a master Black & White printer, working and consulting with a broad range of photographers and artists.
While I have shot everything from food to product to medical procedures, it is people that I enjoy the most, either formally or just living their lives. I am constantly intrigued by how we respond to our environment and each other. While the fact that I am also a therapist and a social worker points to a certain understanding of human dynamics, what I love most is how we simply persevere in life together. It is when we interact that the magic happens and we become ourselves. I am very fortunate in that I get to be there for those moments!
Portraiture has always fascinated me because the BEST images are achieved when the subject drops their self-consciousness AND their awareness of the photographer. Getting people to that point is the real skill of a photographer. One of the nicest comments I have heard about my work is that the subject, known to be rather anxious, looked as though they had been photographed by a friend.
All prints for sale are Giclee and are done to professional archival standards.
